Thousands of Americans qualified for a $5,000 payment from a cyberattack suit settlement.

In a class action lawsuit against Columbus Regional Healthcare System (CRHS), a suggested $1,175,000 settlement has been reached; hence, certain impacted consumers could get possible compensation of $5,000.

The settlement follows a May 21, 2023 cyberattack that left sensitive patient data including Social Security numbers and health insurance information accessible to hackers open to hackers. About 132,800 people were compromised.

Reports the Sun, CRHS has decided to settle the claim without acknowledging any responsibility.

The lawsuit's plaintiffs claimed the healthcare provider neglected sufficient cybersecurity policies to guard patient information. Though CRHS says they did nothing illegal, they would pay impacted consumers.

Provided they have documentation of their losses, qualified class members are eligible to seek reimbursement for confirmed out-of-pocket expenses up to $5,000 apiece.

Furthermore, every class member has the chance to get a portion of the estimated $50 per person settlement fund; this sum may vary based on the overall number of approved and filed claims.

Class members may submit a claim online here in order to be awarded. To be eligible for the settlement, receipts must be accompanying all claims. Recall that April 2, 2025 is your last date to submit your claim.
