Social Security collectors will receive extra check

This uncommon situation is expected to arise two more times this year; social security collectors could expect to get two checks in the mail in May and none in June.

Except for weekends and federal holidays, beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income normally receive their checks on the first of the month; regular Social Security payments are delivered based on the recipient's birthday.

Those born between the first and 10th of the month receive payment on the second Wednesday of the month. Those born between the 11th and 20th get it on Wednesday, the third.

The calendar falls this year such that recipients will get two cheques in May, August, and October.

Since June 1 lands over the weekend this year, all collectors should get their May payment on May 1 and their June payment on May 30. Collectors will thus get no money during the duration of June.

The similar problem will resurface in August and October, when collectors can expect two checks each of those months.

Following the SSA calendar, they will then not get any money in September or November.
