Prune Your Jade Plant Now – For a Bushy & Healthy Look!

March 17, 2025

Prune your jade plant during its active growing season (spring or early summer) for the best results. This ensures that the plant can heal quickly and grow new branches.

Choose the Right Time

Always use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to avoid damaging the plant and reduce the risk of spreading disease.

Use Sharp Tools

Focus on cutting back leggy or overgrown branches. Remove any stems that are too long, weak, or growing out of shape, as this encourages new, stronger growth.

Best Branches to Trim

When pruning, cut just above a healthy leaf node (the spot where leaves or branches grow). This helps the plant to sprout new growth from the cut area.

Healthy Node

Trim any dead, yellowing, or diseased leaves to keep your jade plant healthy and looking vibrant. These leaves can sap the plant's energy and invite pests or disease.

Diseased Leaves

To create a bushier appearance, trim the tips of branches to encourage lateral growth. This will help the jade plant develop a fuller, more compact shape.

Shape for Fullness

Don’t overdo it! Prune no more than 20-30% of the plant at once. Over-pruning can stress the plant and stunt its growth.
