National Cherry Blossom Festival returns to D.C.

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is collaborating with the National Cherry Blossom Festival for the 12th year, offering cherry blossom-themed family activities, crafts, and performances.

On March 22, a free family event will feature Japanese taiko drumming by Nen Daiko, vinyl music sets by Les The DJ, and spring-themed scavenger hunts.

Seasonal treats will be available at the Courtyard Café. Two in-person embroidery workshops on March 23 and April 6, led by Miri Artyukhina, will teach participants to create cherry blossom-inspired art for $15; registration is required.

Online Family Zone activities include seasonal crafts, coloring pages, and videos inspired by the museum’s collection.

A special exhibition, “Pictures of Belonging,” highlights works by Japanese American artists Miki Hayakawa, Hisako Hibi, and Miné Okubo, free and on view until August 17. 

The 2025 National Cherry Blossom Festival runs from March 20 to April13, featuring four weeks of events celebrating spring, arts, and culture.
