Social Security This Week: Payments of Up to $5,108 To Be Paid

This week, millions of Social Security beneficiaries will get their April payments; are you among them?

Why It Matters

Every month, the Social Security Administration (SSA) pays roughly 70 million Americans disability, survivor, and retirement payments. For most recipients, payments are given in one lump sum; some receive them periodically.

What To Know

Depending on the recipient’s birthdate and the length of their benefit payments, retirement checks are sent out throughout the month. Usually distributed at the beginning of each month, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) gives financial aid to aged, blind, disabled people with low income and assets.

Payments to all people born between the first and the tenth of any given calendar month will be made this Wednesday, April 9.

How Much Can I Get?

The age at which you retire will determine the maximum benefit for retirement. For instance, your maximum benefit would be $4,018 should you retire in 2025 at full retirement age.

Your maximum payout, though, would be $2,831 if you retired in 2025 at age 62—the earliest age allowed. Your maximum reward, should you retire in 2025 at age 70, might be $5,108.

The amount a recipient gets for SSI depends on things including income, kind of handicap, and number of persons living in the claimants house. For one person, the maximum allowed this year is $967; for a pair, it is $1,450 per month.

Changes for April

April marks the first month that those formally affected by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), both of which were removed by the Social Security Fairness Act passed in January this year.

The SSA announced in February that starting in April enhanced benefit payments would be provided. Already distributed are retroactive payments for gains granted back to January 2024.

The SSA has stated that “the change in payment amount will vary from person to person depending on factors including the type of Social Security benefit received and the amount of the person’s pension.”

Further Payment Dates for April 2025

Following dates this month will see more benefit payments:

April 16: advantages for people born between the 11th and the 20th.

April 23: Benefits for individuals born between the 21st and the 31st.

Should a payment fall short of expectations, the SSA advises beneficiaries to wait three working days before getting in touch with the federal agency. Saturdays and federal holidays are not working days.
