TRCP Western Media Summit, Bozeman, MT:

What You Should Know about the #TRCPSummit:

TRCP hosted their annual Western Media Summit in Bozeman, MT this week and East to West Hunting Podcast was there. Listen to this week’s 30 minute podcast to get an overview of what you should know about CWD, the 2018 Farm Bill, and gaining access to 9.52 million acres of our public lands that are currently land-locked and inaccessible.

Chronic Wasting Disease:

Chronic Wasting Disease has now been detected in 25 states across the US and has the potential to devastate deer herds, our hunting legacy, and ultimately conservation & conservation funding.

Here are 5 facts worth your consideration:

1. CWD is transmitted through protein substances called prions which are not viruses, bacteria or living matter

2. CWD is a neurological disorder that is best described as looking like “Swiss cheese in the brain”

3. Prions can remain in soil, vegetation and the food chain for up to 16 years

4. CWD is difficult to detect in living animals until its too late – symptoms can take up to 1.5 years to reveal themselves

5. You can do your part by not transporting high risk deer carcass parts like brain and spinal cord matter across states or from regions where CWD is known to currently exist.

Unlocking Access to 9.52 million acres of America’s public lands

9.52 million acres. That’s how many acres of America’s public lands are currently locked out with no legal access to the public. TRCP and OnXHunt Maps collaborated on a GIS software technology project to break this down by state and to create an inventory of prioritized projects that can be unlocked using key funding tools like the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
