  • Mentally preparing for Adirondack hunting
  • Setting realistic expectations
  • How much area to hunt and what to generally look for in terms of attributes – topography, cover, water
  • what time of year Jamie and Todd like to be in the woods
  • what we carry in our packs
  • DEC State Lands Interactive Mapper (SLIM)

Background

Adirondack deer hunting is a unique big woods experience in the East’s largest wilderness area. Its different than many whitetail deer hunting experiences across America. There are vast expanses of unbroken forest & road-less areas.  Low deer densities can make for a challenging hunt.  While this can be challenging, it can also be incredibly rewarding when you are successful. Adirondack deer hunting requires that you put all of the outdoor skills you’ve ever learned into action. This includes navigation, understanding deer behavior, tracking skills, reading sign, and being comfortable miles away from the nearest road. It also requires accepting that you may go home without filling a tag but have an incredible hunting trip nonetheless.
